Fic: Resolutions: G

Title: Resolutions
Form/Wordcount: Double drabble
Characters/Pairings: Dr John Watson
Rating: G
Warnings/Content: Watson has been woken from a dream

Dr Watson stumbled out of bed and down the stairs.  Until a few moments ago he had been peacefully dreaming.  In his dream he had been sitting in his armchair before a roaring fire, his pipe in one hand and a glass of whisky close to the other.  It had been blissful.  Although strangely, Mrs Hudson had been there too, telling him how her New Year resolution was to reduce her gin consumption.

That was unlikely to be happening.

Of course, the dream had had more peculiarities, as most dreams do.  For sitting in the armchair opposite, instead of Holmes, had been Julius Caesar, wearing a deerstalker.  He had been informing them the habit of making resolutions had begun with the Babylonians.  Caesar had also said he would no longer be playing his violin at nights.

Clearly the Emperor hadn’t been telling the truth.

The doctor couldn’t remember what his resolution had been, but no doubt it too was about to be broken.

He stomped into the sitting room.  “Holmes, just for once, could you put that infernal instrument away?”

Then he turned and headed further downstairs.  With any luck Mrs Hudson would have opened the new bottle of gin.

Mrs Hudson would be able to reduce her consumption if a certain tenant changed his ways a bit. Glad you enjoyed it.

I thought there may have been a clue to Watson's resolution that I missed.

Funny that Watson dreams of emperors and I agree it's unlikely that the gin consumption will decrease.

No, Watson's resolution disappeared into the depth of his subconscious.

There must have been some discussion regarding resolutions, and their popularity in ancient times to have sparked the dream, although it would appear his co-tenant's behaviour also made its way in there ;)
